The Do's and Dont's of Fall Skincare

by Elise Respicio-Jun September 09, 2022

Fall is upon us! With colder temperatures approaching us, it can be worrisome when it comes to how this cooler season will affect our skin. Look no further! We’ll share with you the do’s and dont’s of Fall skincare and make sure your glowy complexion is with you year-round!

DO NOT skip out on moisturizer

With our schedules amping up, it’s understandable to want to find shortcuts in your routine so you can get out the door quicker. It’s important to note that even during this busy time, moisturizer is something you should not be skipping out on, especially in the morning. Without moisturizing your skin, cooler temperatures and wind will have an even harsher effect on your complexion. When left undealt with, this can lead to irritation, discomfort, and even an overcompensation in sebum production (meaning your skin may be more prone to breakouts!)

DO add a quality face oil at the end of your skincare routine

Applying a good face oil after your skincare routine (likeVelvette’s Anti-Aging Oil - Day) helps seal in all that goodness and provides a protective barrier to your skin from the wind, debris, and other harsh elements that Fall weather usually brings. Applying face oil at night also helps provide your skin with rich nutrients, which better prepares your skin for your next day out.Velvette’s Anti-Aging Oil - Night is a high quality, cosmetic-chemist founded face oil that will provide your skin with the best ingredients, and is a great addition to any skincare regimen.

DO NOT spend extended amounts of time in hot showers

Colder temperatures make those hot, lengthy showers enticing! Unfortunately, spending long amounts of time in the shower with the water running very hot can be detrimental to your skin in the long run, especially as temperatures drop. Hot showers can negatively affect your skin’s moisture barrier and induce itchiness. This paired with already harsh temperatures leaves your skin vulnerable to the elements. Instead, opt for a lukewarm shower!

DO invest in a good body oil

Like the skin on your face, the skin on your body can also see increased sensitivity from colder temperatures. We often neglect skincare for the rest of our body, but it is still very important for our skin’s health! By simply investing in a good body oil (likeVelvette’s Essential body oil), and applying some to the skin after your shower, it will provide a better level of protection than simply leaving your skin as-is.

DO NOT forget to hydrate

As Summer winds down, it can be easy to forget the importance of drinking water! Even when the weather begins to cool down, never forget to prioritize hydration. By keeping yourself well-hydrated, you give your skin a better chance at braving the elements of Fall, and keeping your skin’s moisture barrier intact. Drink up!

DO keep face oil on you at all times

If you’re planning on spending time soaking up the crisp Fall weather, make sure you have some face oil handy for reapplication! Something easy to carry likeVelvette’s Travel-Size Calming Face Oil - Day  is perfect to throw in your purse before you head out on your scenic Fall walk. Reapplying your face oils helps keep your skin moisturized and protected!
