Say goodbye to clogged pores, tan lines, and dry flakes with our plant-based and biodegradable exfoliating gloves! Painlessly prepare your skin for ultimate absorption of your favorite moisturizers, like Velvette's Essential Body Oil. Not only is it super satisfying to scrub your dead skin off, you'll be amazed at how soft will become!
1. Shower or bathe, making sure your skin has soaked in water for at least 10 minutes. Do not use any soaps or products yet.
2. Wet the glove and wring out excess water.
3. Move out of the water, and scrub the body (not the face), using firm pressure with an up-and-down motion. This is where the magic happens and the dead skin rolls off*! Make sure to avoid any sensitive areas with open wounds or inflammation.
*Not everyone will visually see dead skin roll off. Please see the FAQ section for more details.
4. Apply soap and other bath products to continue cleansing your body.
5. Dry off and moisturize with our Essential Body Oil.
6. Rinse your gloves, stretch them into shape, and hang them dry. Wait at least 1-2 weeks before scrubbing again! For best results, replace your gloves after 10 weeks.
1. Get a good soak
Preparing your skin before using an exfoliating mitt can make all the difference in achieving the best results. Soaking your skin in warm water for at least 10 minutes is a great way to soften dead skin cells and make them easier to remove.
2. Be firm, but gentle
While it may be tempting to scrub vigorously with your exfoliating mitt, it's important to use gentle pressure to avoid damaging your skin. Use steady up-and-down motions to massage the skin, and apply just enough pressure to feel a gentle exfoliating sensation. You should not be seeing any scab marks, bruising, or bleeding after an exfoliation session.
3. Don't over exfoliate
When you exfoliate your skin with our exfoliating mitt, you're essentially scrubbing away dead skin cells, and revealing fresh, new skin underneath. While it's tempting to want to exfoliate every day or every other day, it's important to give your skin time to regenerate and build up new layers of dead skin cells. Otherwise, you risk stripping away too much of the protective outer layer of your skin, leaving it vulnerable to damage and irritation. We recommend waiting a minimum of 1-2 weeks between exfoliation sessions to allow your skin to rest and replenish.
4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
After exfoliating with our mitt, you've sloughed off layers of dead skin cells, revealing fresh and smooth skin. However, this new skin is also more vulnerable and sensitive, which is why we recommend applying a moisturizer like our Essential Body Oil to nourish the skin. Removing the outer layer of dead skin cells allows the body oil to be absorbed even more quickly and deeply, leaving the skin feeling incredibly soft and supple.
5. Target common areas for dead skin buildup
It is important to replace your exfoliating mitt regularly, ideally every 8-10 weeks. Over time, the fibres of the mitt will start to break down and become less effective at exfoliating. Also, the mitt may accumulate bacteria and other debris, which can lead to skin irritation and even infection if used repeatedly without proper cleaning or replacement. So, replacing your mitt every 10 weeks will not only ensure optimal exfoliation, but will help to maintain the health of your skin.
Our Exfoliating Mitts are finely knit in a special way that effectively grips onto dead skin and rolls it off painlessly! If at any point you feel pain, you're rubbing too hard. Rub firmly, not aggressively!
You've just revealed fresh new skin, so take good care of it by putting a moisturizer, like our Essential Body Oil on top! You'll find your moisturizers will absorb much better since the dead layer of skin that used to be on top is no longer there.
If you have sensitive skin, make sure to patch test first to ensure you are using an appropriate amount of pressure for your skin. Some redness is normal during the scrubbing process, but it should subside quickly within minutes of scrubbing.
Avoid rubbing on any open wounds, and only scrub once the wound has healed fully.
After you are done exfoliating, wash the mitt with soap and water. These mitts shrink once they get wet, so it's important to stretch them into shape before hanging dry.
We recommend replacing your mitts after 10 weeks. Due to the fine and intricate knitting structure of the fibers, the mitt may lose efficacy over time. For hygienic reasons, it's also difficult to fully wash away 10 weeks of accumulated dead skin from the mitt.
First, cut the elastic band off. Then, place the fabric part of the exfoliating mitt in the compost bin, and the elastic band in the garbage bin. The outer packaging is made of paper, and can be recycled.
